Flexible engineering design support

We support our clients with a flexible and reactive engineering design & manufacturing resource, we do this in several ways. We could provide support whilst becoming an extension of your existing in-house design team or have your full engineering projects contracted out to MedTec with the aim of having a full turnkey solution provided.

Comprehensive project lifecycle support

MedTec can join a project from initiation or from partway through its lifecycle. We can support single clients looking to take a product to market or large corporations seeking additional design support tailoring our approach to find the most suitable fit for our clients.

Our clients are often supported with much more than just 2D draughting we support with, research, conceptualisation, feasibility assessment, establishing design requirements, preliminary design, detailed design, production planning and fabrication.

Turnkey fabrication solutions

MedTec Design Services Turnkey approach allows us to take care of all your fabrication requirements whilst utilising a limited supply chain. Our fabrication work is designed and manufactured to suit your individual needs, be they for one-off fabrications or for large batch runs.

We will look after the whole process from design to build and test if required. As part of the process, we take pride in our project management systems to ensure the work is produced to a high level of satisfaction with regards to quality, budget and meeting agreed lead times.

Cost-Effective FEA Simulation

MedTec will often use FEA throughout our design stages to allow for optimisation of products and parts. Our practical approach to simulation allows us to offer a very competitively priced service. The initial simulations conducted during the design stages are charged at our standard drafting hourly rates. Therefore, clients only incur full professional fees if they require final simulations or calculations to be signed off by a chartered engineer.

Inspection with precision

To complement our engineering services MedTec has the expertise to operate a fully portable five-axis digitising arm for inspection and design purposes. Using this equipment, it is possible to measure intricate shapes within tolerances equal to 0.03mm.

The acquired data can then be used to produce detailed drawings or to evaluate mechanical properties. Offering this service MedTec have assisted many clients to extend the service life of equipment for which spare parts are no longer available.

Comprehensive Design Workflow

MedTec aim to share your journey from concept to creation and as a standard we would implement the below approach to our design challenges. 

1. Conceptual product design & design review

  • Kick off meeting with client following into a detailed review of scope of work and brainstorming session with client.
  • Researching and generating ideas, identifying criteria- (must haves and desirables). specifying constraints. 
  • MedTec to complete conceptual designs.
  • Design presentation – MedTec to present findings over a power-point presentation.  Outcome – Selecting one design or cherry-picking elements from all to move forward with.

2. Detail design & design review

  • Client and MedTec – Select an approach.
  • Detail Development of design proposal and detail design for chosen idea.
  • Preliminary drawing package, including piece parts, Assembly and GA’s. 
  • BOM Generation.
  • Make a model or prototype – selecting key areas of design and prototyping for proof of concept. 
  • Physical demo on concept/hardware checking that its fit for purpose.

3. Testing, evaluating & refining design

  • Cost analysis and review.
  • Refining the design.
  • Testing and evaluating the design.
  • Detail drawing package ready for manufacture. Issued PDF and native file package.
  • CGI of chosen design, for sales, marketing, and public outreach.
  • Communicating processes and results via design review /sign off.
