RAD Additive has announced the acquisition of MedTec Design Services, an established engineering consultancy with a 45‑year heritage supporting manufacturers across aerospace, defence, composites and advanced engineering.

The combined organisation will operate as the RAD Engineering Group, uniting production‑intent additive manufacturing and agile engineering design with MedTec’s proven multi‑disciplinary engineering capability, ISO‑aligned processes, and longstanding reputation for technical excellence.

A Unified Design‑to‑Manufacture Engineering Partner

The formation of the RAD Engineering Group creates a fully integrated design‑to‑manufacture capability, enabling customers to engage a single engineering partner across the full project lifecycle, including:

  • Concept development, design optimisation and value engineering
  • CAD, modelling, detailing and design governance
  • Production‑intent additive manufacturing supporting rapid prototyping and low‑volume production
  • Advanced 3D scanning and dimensional metrology
  • Manufacturing delivered through a proven network of long‑standing, trusted partners
  • Project management for complex engineering programmes

This integration is designed to reduce supplier fragmentation, simplify delivery, and improve engineering certainty for manufacturers delivering increasingly complex projects.

Leadership Comment

“Integrating MedTec Design Services with RAD Additive forms the RAD Engineering Group — a unified, end‑to‑end engineering partner for manufacturers across the South of the UK and the Isle of Wight,” said Dominic Urry, Technical Director at MedTec Design Services.

“By combining MedTec’s 45‑year engineering pedigree and ISO‑aligned processes with RAD Additive’s agility, creativity and additive manufacturing expertise, we create a single, efficient route from design to production. This reduces friction, lowers risk, and enables us to support both SMEs and major manufacturers with dependable technical delivery and scalable engineering capacity.”

To support a smooth integration, we are also pleased to announce the former owner of MedTec Design Services, Dan Carley, will continue in a consultancy capacity, providing continuity and supporting structured knowledge transfer.

Dom – New MedTec Technical Director

Dominic Urry joins MedTec Design Services as Technical Director, bringing extensive experience in design engineering and project management across safety-critical and regulated industries, including aviation refuelling, specialist vehicles and modular structures. Drawn to MedTec by its strong engineering legacy and culture, Dominic is focused on building on the company’s heritage while supporting customers with increasingly complex challenges. He also acknowledges the contribution of outgoing directors Dan and Chris, and is pleased to continue working with Dan, who remains involved in a consultancy capacity to provide continuity and guidance during the integration.

Bob – New MedTec Managing Director

Bob is Managing Director of the engineering group that includes MedTec Design Services and RAD Additive, leading the next phase of development across the business. His background spans digital electronics engineering, software design and systems consultancy, with experience across defence, finance and commercial and medical instrumentation. Over the past five years, Bob has built RAD Additive, applying more than a decade of practical additive manufacturing experience to real engineering challenges. As Managing Director, Bob is focused on building a stable, capable engineering group that combines modern technology with proven engineering discipline, working closely with Technical Director Dominic Urry to grow the group’s capabilities for the future.
